Empress of Dorsa update:
Total words today: 438
Manuscript total: 119,929
When I was an itty bitty girl my grandfather used to play this game with me. I don’t have any earthly idea where he got it from — if it was a game his own parents and grandparents played with him or if he made it up — but it seems to be related to the folk song “The Old Grey Mare,” but not quite the same words or tune. He’d prop me up on his knees and bounce me up and down while singing:
The old grey mule goes tottering along
Tottering along
Tottering along
The old grey mule goes tottering along
She stumbled her foot —
[ At this point he would stop bouncing me up and down in time with his ditty ]
And she…
FELL IN THE DITCH!
At “fell in the ditch,” he would open up his knees and I would fall downward, almost hitting my butt on the floor before he rescued me, and I would be giggling like a maniac the whole time.
“Again, again, again!” I would demand.
So basically, when it comes to writing, I’m currently the old grey mule.
That’s what keeps going through my head as I write each day, writing but falling faaaaaar short of the number of words I need to be writing to finish the manuscript before the new year.
I’m tottering along, one slow, stubborn step at a time.
But you know what? I haven’t stumbled my foot (and yes, I recognize that as grammatically problematic but it’s what my dearly departed grandfather used to say) and I haven’t fallen in the ditch.
So I think I’m fine with tottering. I’m writing each day — not a whole lot, but I’m writing consistently — and I think for now, I’m going to be content with that.
Dammit, it’s going to be a long-ass book again.
But where have you been, dear readers?? Don’t you remember me telling you after Soldier of Dorsa “Please don’t ever let me write a book this long again”?
Why haven’t you stopped me?
I was bound and determined to have this book come in at 120,000 to 150,000 words but noooooooo. I think it’s going to be just as long as Soldier. Hopefully not longer than that.
Hopefully.
Sigh.
70,000 words to go. Maybe 80,000. Hopefully not 90,000.
Anyway, I’ll end this post the way I’ve ended my last few Empress updates:
You can support my writing and get early access to the book by becoming a Patreon subscriber, where I’ve posted twelve chapters so far and will post the thirteenth very soon.

No patreon for me, being as you have already guessed I’m under 18. I do pay you in nice fanart, so my reparations for the serotonin your books give me is paid.

Anyway, if you’re getting tired that’s fine, it’s ok to do things slowly and you’re valued for more than just your productivity. I hope you stay healthy mentally and physically, because that’s what really matters.
If EoD is going to be as thick as SoD, that’s also fine. It must take a lot of words to wrap up a series. Personally speaking, one of the things I like the most about CoD is Tasia and Joslyn getting to be moms (ma’am, mom, they’re close enough). So that’s nice and I think it’s done well. You’ve clearly done many things well, so don’t be afraid to take it slow and celebrate how far you’ve come.

(I also thought I would make your comment section look pretty this time instead of like hell.)

KEEP UP THE AWESOME WORK! Personally I don’t care how long the book is I’m just excited to read more of my favorite lesbian fantasy romance.
Seriously this is the best one I’ve found in all of the kindle store.
The Dorsa series has made me so happy in so many ways. My girlfriend has witnessed me laugh and gasp and even cry while reading this book series. I couldn’t put it down.
Take as long as you need on the book to make it to your liking. We all have loved what you’ve done so far and I know we will love what you give us next.
Thank you so much for this book series and I’m sending all the good positive vibes your way.
The Real Person!
Aww, thanks Meagan. I can’t wait to finish book 3 and see what readers think of it. It’s very different from the other two books, but I hope it’s “different in a good way” and not “different in a bad way.”
