204,883 words in Soldier of Dorsa. Editing chapter 51 of 68. Doesn’t look like I’m likely to cut out the 10,000 – 20,000 words I was hoping for, but I’m also under 205,000 words, so that’s positive.
Amazing things that have been happening this week!
I don’t know if you’ve ever followed Tim Ferriss, but he has something he calls “Five Bullet Friday,” in which he lists five cool things he’s reading, doing, or enjoying. This post is going to follow that idea:
1) Cool book I’ve been reading
I’ve been listening to the book Natural Born Heroes by Christopher MacDougall. In short, it’s about how misfit British archaeologists teamed up with native guerrilla fighters on the island of Crete to beat back the Nazis. It’s an amazing story, but more than that, it’s also about how the human body and the human mind are capable of so much more than we give it credit for.
It makes me want to visit Crete in the near future (you know, when I’m making those big bucks as a high school teacher, LOL). It also makes me want to take up…
2) Parkour
Parkour, if you haven’t ever heard of it, is a little like skateboarding without the skateboard. It’s American Ninja Warrior stuff, running and jumping and vaulting over obstacles, swinging and rolling and basically bouncing around like humans can (but often don’t) do. I like anything that approaches fitness and movement from a playful but also functional point of view. I’m sick of the monotony of the gym. Anybody in San Diego wanna learn parkour with me??
3) Awesome thing that happened!
As I posted on Instagram recently, I went to return a book to the library yesterday and stumbled into a library book sale! I picked up four paperbacks for a buck. I don’t normally carry cash, so I was lucky to find three lonely dollar bills forgotten inside my backpack!
4) Progress on my edTPA
Reading, parkour, writing… these all take second+ place compared to my work in student teaching, grad school, and on my teaching credential. Remember how I told you about what a pain in my ass edTPA is? Well, a pain or not, it’s gotta be done, and I made some positive strides on it this week. My goal is to finish a first draft by the end of the month.
5) GoalCrazy planner
Speaking of goals, I’ve been enjoying and nerding out on my new GoalCrazy planner, which is a 90-day productivity journal that LT kindly sponsored for me as an early Valentine’s Day gift. The thing feels like a brick in my hand, it’s so dense. I’ve been using it to plan my days for a couple weeks now, and I think it’s part of what I can thank for my miraculously procrastination-free past two weeks. (That, and the fact that I’m just busy AF and just don’t have time to procrastinate!)
That’s all from me for the week. What cool things have you been into recently?

The Real Person!
Jennifer,
edTPA is a bit of a nightmare, yes.
So is editing, LOL.
I am on chapter 51 out of 68. I hope to edit a little more today.
I’m really really hoping to finish final edits by mid-month and publish by the end of the month. Let’s cross our fingers!

great. I wish you didn’t post both of them. I really feel stupid now but I didn’t know. I didn’t think my first post posted. I posted it and saw nothing and tried again. I didn’t know you had to approve them
Wish it told me that first but I entered two posts that were almost exactly alike
