First, an Adele parody that will hopefully make you smile.

And with that out of the way with… happy Sunday!

I realized that this Sunday feels *almost* like any other Sunday. That is to say — I did some writing this morning, I have homework to do, I started thinking about lesson planning (because in theory, we’re going virtual when spring break ends on April 5), and I’m going to do some household chores before the day is out.

The primary difference is that I won’t be going to the grocery store today. I tried to shop for two weeks instead of one the last time I went, so my last trip should last me a few more days.

I went to my first virtual event today.

I haven’t gone to the Buddhist Center very much since I moved to San Diego for a variety of reasons — one reason being that it’s too darn far away. A friend from Atlanta invited me to a virtual event happening at the Atlanta Buddhist Center this weekend, so this morning I tried it out. That’s the cool part of everything going virtual, right? Still can’t go to the San Diego Center, but hop on my computer and I’ll be in Atlanta in no time.

I was glad I “went.” Definitely not the same as being there… but on the other hand, I was able to work on my Port Lorsin city map with impunity while I listened, so that was nice. 😀

What about you?

How is your Sunday shaping up? Have you tried virtual services or other virtual events yet?

I’ve been wanting to start a writing MeetUp in my area for a while now. First I was going to wait until I finished my edTPA, but then coronavirus, so then I was going to wait until after coronavirus, but maybe I should just do it virtually?

Anyway. Deep thoughts.

I actually attended my first virtual Quaker Meeting for Worship this morning—the idea of which seemed a bit hilarious to me in all honesty since the normal practice is to gather together and sit in silence until someone feels led by the Spirit to rise and speak [we are unprogrammed Friends, which means we don’t have paid clergy, or programmed format—it’s modeled after the early Friends’ practice of silent worship; it’s different from meditation because the intent is to worship as a corporate body, ‘in expectant silence’, and formal worship is also different from a group that gathers to share thoughts, feelings, and experiences—its purpose is anchored in that stillness from which vocal ministry may arise; I’m just clarifying a bit since the appearance lends itself to assumptions, but a lot is actually going on under the surface if it’s done right…]; so, the idea of a zoom gathering of folks sitting in silence kind of tickled me. It was all fine, as long as I kept my eyes closed, just like usual—but unlike a typical Meeting, where you might glance out a window, then settle back in, now I was looking at a variety of people in home spaces with cats on laps, on tables, on the bookshelf, on floor, back on the lap, in between, and folks getting drinks, or getting the camera rearranged so it was there, or there, or there and then it was the lady moving her arms like wings-whaaat.is.she.doing?-so, I learned to keep my eyes closed because I am way too ADD to have that much visual stim available for something this new and that calls for quiet centering. My wife, of course, sat peacefully for the duration.

Thanks for sharing the hilarious video! It’s too real.

Ha, a clever video!
This weekend I video chatted with my cousin who was in a hot tub in Calgary, a genuine first, and spent half an hour discussing with friends how to play scrabble with a real board and pieces and Zoom… Complicated…
I’m over my religious phase, but I’m told that my local church had far more people attending a virtual service today than ever go in person… Hmm. Fascinating.

Well done with the writing! 🙂

    Doesn’t surprise me!

Thanks for your Lockdown Progress reports, I look forward to them as they help to keep me sane. It doesn’t matter where we are in the world it seems that we are all in the same leaky boat.

You’re welcome! I agree that they give us a sense of connectedness during this strange time, which is what we all need right now.

Also: Jack Handy, what a throwback. My uncle and I used to recite those back and forth.

Are you talking about SGI Buddhism? I spent most of the day today doing a puzzle. I have’t done anything virtual but I do want to do a virtual museum tour.

    Nope, not SGI. 🙂
