Summary of All About E and Review
Elmira, who goes by “E,” is a popular DJ in Australia. After a one-night stand with a waitress from a competing nightclub, she realizes she’s accidentally come into possession of a duffle bag filled with cash. What ensues is a “caper” movie where she and her GBF try to stay one step ahead of the bad guys who want their money back.
There are *significant* holes in this film. Watching it, you almost get the feeling that it was originally supposed to be longer, and then had a lot of edits that ended up creating a jumbled mess. The two I mention in the video review above are:
- E gave up playing clarinet, and this is a defining characteristic of her character, but we never learn why.
- The love story between E and her ex is rather thin and mainly seems like an excuse to add a sex scene. We never find out why they broke up in the first place, and the fact that E’s ex takes her back is rather confusing and quick.
More holes include:
- What happened with E’s brother? It seems like his death had a major impact on her, but what exactly that was is never explained.
- Why does she have a special relationship with the bad guy? It’s hinted that she isn’t willing to betray him for some reason, but this isn’t explained, either.
- Ethnicity / race: This isn’t so much a “hole” in the film as it is something that the movie could’ve done more with but left unsaid.
3.5 stars. Fun and enjoyable, good acting, but too many holes and mixed messages to earn four or more stars.
